These terms apply when you use Scholar.cx, run by Scholar.cx ("we", "us"). By creating an account you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
1. What Scholar.cx does
Scholar.cx checks documents you upload for similarity to other sources and for text that looks AI-generated, and gives you the scores and PDF reports. Scholar.cx is an independent service. It is not run by, or connected to, any university, college or school.
2. Your account
- Use a real email address and keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for what happens in your account.
- One person per account. Don't share your account or sell access to it.
3. Redeem codes and checks
- Each code adds a set number of checks to your account. One check covers one document.
- A code can only be redeemed once per account, and single-use codes only once in total. Codes may have an expiry date.
- Codes have no cash value and can't be exchanged for money on this site.
- If a check fails, the check goes back to your account automatically.
- Refunds for the purchase of a code are handled by the seller or marketplace you bought it from, under their refund policy.
4. What you may upload
- Only upload documents you wrote or have the right to check.
- Don't upload anything illegal, harmful, or containing other people's personal data without their permission.
- Don't try to break, overload or get around the limits of the service, or access other users' data.
We may suspend accounts that break these rules.
5. About the results
- Similarity and AI-writing scores help you review your work. They are not proof that a document was copied or written by AI, and your institution may use different tools or settings and get different results.
- AI-writing scores can be wrong. Scores under 20% are shown as "<20%" because they are often false positives.
- The AI-writing check doesn't support every language. Documents in Malay, for example, get a similarity check only.
- You are responsible for your own work and for following your institution's rules on academic integrity.
6. Your documents
You keep all rights to your documents. You let us process them only to produce your reports. Documents are not added to any repository, and we delete documents and reports 7 days after the check. See our privacy policy for details.
7. Availability and liability
- We try to keep the service running, but it may sometimes be slow or unavailable, for example during maintenance or if our provider has problems.
- The service is provided "as is". As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the service or the results, including academic results. Our total liability is limited to the value of the checks involved.
- Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act 1999 that can't be limited.
8. Changes
We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and continuing to use the service means you accept the new terms.

These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia.
